Hello, everyone!!! I'm finally back on. This past week has been so great for me. Although I didn't do anything crazy for New Years, in fact all I did was watch episode III of Star Wars, I had been thinking this week about what exactly I want to focus on this year as my "resolution". I've never really had one in the past and rather than a new beginning the whole year, I think that I'll be trying to make a resolution each day. We have a new beginning and new start every single day. I think that every day if you reflect on what mistakes you've made in the past 24 hours, it's easier to work on them. Even if you don't make a resolution every single day, I think it can really help all of us improve ourselves. I know my imperfections and I have a few things that I know I need to focus on.
In the midst of celebrating New Years, my cousin Charles got married! Their wedding was absolutely beautiful. My sister, mom, and I drove to Gilbert, AZ to attend the wedding and we all had such a great time. I think it was such a cool thing to see some of my family and just to all get together. Their wedding was on January 1st in the afternoon and I posted some pictures above if you haven't already seen them. I'm so happy for my cousin and his new wife Allie. The both looked incredible and I'm pretty sure all of the family was crying as we watched him say "I do".
While in Arizona, I was also able to be there to celebrate my cousin Maddy's 4th birthday. I was so happy to see her being that it's been a few years since I've seen her. She was so happy to have us and I loved being able to spend time with her finally. Her party was at a beautiful park that had all sorts of areas of playgrounds, water fountains, fields, etc. It was honestly such a lovely location and I was glad to be there with everyone.
As my first week of 2016 starts, I am so excited for this month and this year to bring more opportunities and a greater me. I hope you all had a fun and happy new year!
So I'm officially back to school for my second semester and it already feels entirely different, for a number of different reason. Firstly, I have no roommates. This has its perks as well as some downers. I honestly miss my old roommates so much that were here last semester with me; I scored with having them for roommates. Unfortunately, they both dropped out for different reasons and have left me with this dorm room to myself. I am trying to decorate it the best that I can right now so that it doesn't feel so empty so I did buy a few cute items from Target that I thought was cute and perhaps a bit Valentines Day-y. My cousin also gave me a beautiful plant that I sat on one of the desks beside a French painting that my dad gave me for Christmas. I hope to have it feeling super homely this semester.
In the more academic sense, I'm still trying to hype myself up, but I know that once I get in the swing of things again I'll be fine. I really want to focus more on my school work this semester and really try not to get distracted so much by other little things which tend to happen to me. I want to end this year off great and I know I can as long as I focus and work for it.
This week I also want to be more physically active. I did yoga this morning which helped me to feel more energized and refreshed for the day and I hope to go for a walk/jog at least three times this week so I'll see how that goes with my schedule and such. Wish me luck!
These past few days, the rain has been coming down quite often and I have to say, I absolutely love it! The rain has always been my favorite. It gives me a chance to not only bundle up in the cutest coats, boots, and scarves, but it gives me an excuse to stay at home and really unwind and relax in ridiculously comfy sweats! When I feel relaxed enough, I love going out to a coffee shop, to go see a good movies, or really, just walking around outside somewhere in some rain boots. Here in Southern California we don't get a whole lot of opportunities to wear rain boots or umbrellas. So this week I went out to do just that. While going out to enjoy the rain, I discovered a few cute spots in Riverside that I had no idea existed and had been wanting to go visit from what I had heard from other people.
On Monday evening I finally was able to pay a visit at Augie's Coffee House on Main Street in downtown. I had heard about this place for years and I had never really made the effort to go and check it out. I am so glad I finally did because I absolutely loved it! Some of you reading this have probably been here hundreds of times, but I did say I'm really late on this one. I ordered a chai latte which tasted so incredible! Not only are their drinks super tasty, but I really liked the laid back atmosphere that it had as well. I highly recommend this coffee shop especially if you just want a quiet place to do homework, study, even just browsing the internet or hanging out with a friend.
Another really awesome place that I tried out in downtown was a small French bakery called Just Pastries. This bakery was a whole new level of cuteness! As I walked in they greeted me and were so welcoming. & on top of all of that, they spoke to you in French as they greeted you which I honestly really loved. My brain scrambled as I tried to think of all of my French vocabulary I had learned throughout high school. Not only were the staff as sweet as can be, but the pastries were just as sweet! I ordered an apple tart and I thought it was so delicious. If you choose to stay and eat inside, they serve you on such gorgeous dishes! Although you can order to-go, I think that the customer really experiences the bakery inside the shop. The furniture that you find in this bakery is not out of your traditional bakery that you might see down the street.
With these new discoveries in Riverside, it made me want to go see what else I have been missing! I definitely want to go back downtown and check out some more of the small shops and restaurants that I have not experienced yet. If there are any other cool places such as these, leave me some comments on great ones that you would recommend! So don't forget to go out and explore and discover some new places :)
