Summer is fast approaching and with this, comes more free time and opportunities to hang out with friends and family. As a college student with no luck of finding a summer job, I've been trying to find some ways that I can enjoy to save, and even make money. I've come up with several ideas that have been successful for me to save when I can that some people might not have known about or never tried. So, here they are and I hope this list of ideas can benefit you in at least a small way.
1. Use Student Discounts
I know this might sound obvious to some people, but it never really dawned on me to just ask restaurants, cafes, theaters, etc. It's as simple as that. You might be surprised how many places offer student discounts, even if it's 8-10%. If it helps you save, might as well use it!
Here are a few companies/brands that offer student discounts: Apple, Amazon, Topshop, TOMS, Charlotte Russe, Chipotle, Subway, AMC Theaters
2. Download Coupon/Discount Apps on Your Phone
Cartwheel (Target), Retailmenot, & Groupon are a few that I've used in the past. Being a Target lover, I use cartwheel the most frequent and it comes in handy nearly every time I go.
3. Join Survey Websites/Apps to Earn Cash Rewards and Gift Cards
These are usually really simple to join. They will notify you of new surveys that can help you earn points, eventually to make enough for rewards including cash, gift cards, etc. So, why not?!
4. Go to LOCAL Summer Events
When people think of Summer break, they often think of travelling and going somewhere out of the area. If you're trying to stay local and save money, I'd recommend going on our city's website and finding local, and sometimes free, events that are near you. I personally like going to local farmer's markets, market nights. and swap meets. They also provide opportunities for some mini photo sessions. :)
5. Make Your own Treats at Home
We spend so much money, when added up, on food and drinks when we go out with friends. Instead of going out to buy these things, I've recently tried making them at home. I realized how much cheaper and easier it is to make a Frappuccino at home with frozen coffee ice cubes, and some creamer or milk. It's seriously so easy and you don't have to spend money going out to buy one for almost $5!
6. Sell Your Used/Old Clothes
There are SO many buying/selling apps that you can download and make an easy couple of bucks by selling clothes and other items that you don't wear or want anymore. All you have to do is take pictures of the item and post them on the app. It's that easy. I use Depop to sell my clothes that I don't wear anymore or that don't fit. P.S. my username is @glimmerofserenity if you want to check that out ;)
